Why do we call it Capella? It's the name astronomers have given to the brightest star in the constellation Auriga - the sixth brightest star in the night sky. Although it appears to be a single star to the naked eye, it's actually a rare, twin star. Each of Capella's twin stars are about 50 times brighter than our own sun, but because they are so far away from earth, they appear to be just a single star.
